Can anyone offer some insight on the online materials for TPR? I have heard that when the MCAT switched to the computer format that Kaplan was faster at adjusting their teaching methods to match the actual test whereas TPR was a little behind. Has anyone recently taken a TPR course and computer based MCAT that can weigh in?

Thanks!!

I'd like to defend the Kaplan method of using a single teacher. They actually used to use one teacher per section, but found that students did better and preferred one teacher for the entire course. As a Kaplan teacher, I take offense in telling me that I can't be a master at every subject. I got a 40S on the MCAT, and I'd like to argue that I am a master of every subject, when it inovolves taking the MCAT ;). Kaplan's tests are harder than the actual aamc MCAT in my opinion, and I personally liked that, because the real one is a breeze in comparison. I will agree that Kaplan's tests tend to emphasize the unit that you are in, but is that necessarily a bad thing? They have a ton more tests after the last class which are more randomized, as well as the aamc tests. I think Kaplan was worth it for me personally, as I improved by 50 percentile points. Princeton review is nice if you just want to repeat the courses you need, but thats a lot of time. Kaplan is better for people who have limited free time (as in they can't sacrifice 100+ hours to go to lectures), because you can work at your own pace. I also recommend Kaplan over PR because, frankly, PR is mainly a college prep organization, and Kaplan has been doing the MCAT way longer. Also, more than half of students that take the MCAT studied with Kaplan, and considering it costs more that must say something! I did all of the online stuff for about a month after the actual Kaplan classes ended. I would recommend giving yourself a month in between the last Kaplan or PR class and your MCAT, so that you can study on your own and take tons of practice tests Both PR and Kaplan are costly, but they are worth it, especially when you aren't used to studying 300+ hours for an exam like me :).

Hi guys,
I recently took the May MCAT today. I prepared with Kaplan for a year. I find that their exams are based on a higher curve than the AAMC exams. And quite honestly, the real one was much harder than the practice exams I took from Kaplan and emcat. I haven't gotten my scores yet, obviously. But I'm assuming that I probably have to take it again. I guess, I just have to stay strong and give it another try. Anyway, I hope I helped for those of you who are wondering about how Kaplan review classes are like.

When preparing for the MCAT I took a Kaplan course and was not impressed. My practice test scores were far higher than my actual test and I took the real thing twice.
I now teach for The Princeton Review (BIO) and I think that they have a much better course to offer for less than the price of Kaplan. With Kaplan you have the same teacher for all classes and obviously not everyone can be a master in every subject area on the test. The difference with The Princeton Review is that they hire a specific teacher for physics, one for gen chem, one for verbal, one for bio and one for orgo. This way you learn from the best of the best in each subject area. The training required for Princeton Review teachers is also much more intense than it is for Kaplan teachers. Not to mention that your classroom time with the Princeton Review is more than double what it is at Kaplan.
