Is it wise to start preparing for medical school with my background?
0 votes
I graduated with a BS in Psychology and have decided that I want to go to medical school.
I have finished some of the prerequisites and still have some remaining. I'm 22 now, so if I start the remaining prerequisites now (I have six), will I be able to get into medical school by next year (Spetember 2012)? I have yet to take the MCAT.
I have a 3.55 overall GPA from a good university and about a 2.7 science GPA (will the remaining six prerequisites change this science GPA?). Are my chances of getting in good? I'm planning on applying to a DO school or a medical school in the Caribbean.
Thank you so much!

I'm pre-med, so my experience is limmited. What i do know though is that you should not just aim for a caribean school or a DO school to settle (although DO schools are great and no one settles when they get into one, go ahead and apply to one) apply to a range of schools then pick where to go.

you sound like you have what it takes to get in, take the pre-req's, if you get high enough grades you're scince G.P.A. will imporve.

What it really boils down to is how much you want to do this. If it's immportant to you then make it happen.

First thing I'd suggest is make a timeline, mcat needs to be take 18 months prior to your first year of med school. but you can't take it until the pre-req's are done, so first figure out when your going to get it all taken care of, then move on that plan.
