I interviewed mid-Feb and was told April 11th that my application had not gone to the committee yet and it would still be several weeks before I would hear anything. Today I received a rejection letter dated April 12th. How can that be? If the committee only meets on Wednesdays, and I called on Thursday and it hadn't gone to the committee yet, how the hell could they have rejected me on Friday? :p

anyone! Please!

Call them tomorrow and talk with someone in admin. Let them know what you were told regarding your file. There's a possibility they rejection could be a mistake. HEY.....a lot of weird things have happened this year. When you call, express sincere interest in the school and let the lady on the phone know that. Hopefully...it's all a big mistake and your file is still under consideration.

Good Luck

Oh yeh.....just so you have a time frame......I interviewed at AE in early nov and was waitlisted in late Dec and withdrew thereafter.

barb,

There are alot of crazy things going on with Einstein. I had a particularly bad experience, waiting four months to get an answer, which was ultimately a rejection.
It is true the committee meets on wednesdays, but sometimes the secretaries don't ge tthe files back until thursday or friday, at which point they mail out the letters.
Secondly, I called the admissions office several times during the four months and heard almost a different story from everyone. To get solid info, you have to email Noreen Kerrigan, the asst. Dean.
Listen, I hope everything works out. Do call to verify the info, but don't get your hopes up.
:(
God bless

Thanks for the info you guys. I called today and the lady I spoke with was the same one who had told me that it was not yet with the committee. Well, today she told me that's just something she says to everybody whether it's true or not so they won't call back again for at least a few weeks. So I don't think I'll be able to rely on her for a dependable answer. I'm going to e-mail Noreen Kerrigan just to make sure that it did actually go to the committee.

Hey, Barb.
I called them and the receptionist said my file didn't get reviewed yesterday (Wednesday).
She also said they were currently reviewing people who interviewed at the end of February.
But, the thing is that I do know someone on SDN who interviewed in March and has gotten in.
I am now afraid that I will get a rejection letter dated April 19th.

How unprofessional and just plain awful! I'm sure it's annoying to be the person who answers the phone all day long in an admissions office, but c'mon...isn't that their job?

So I emailed Noreen Kerrigan about what happened (leaving out the lying secretary) just asking what it was that I could "improve" on (ie. the thing that got me rejected post-interview) for next year if I reapply. I had hoped she would have at least taken a glance at my file and said, "So and so seemed to be an area you could work on." Instead she gave me the typical form letter response: "It's so difficult to explain to a student, 'Why a rejection letter?' It all adds up to competition. We have this many applicants, and only this many spots, and yada yada yada."

Is it too much to ask a school to spend 10 minutes of their time to provide some guidance on why you were found to be unfit for acceptance, when you spent the time and money to travel all the way across the country for the interview?

Barb, that is just AWFUL! I can't imagine that you would want to go there now, anyway. I hope you have been loved by other schools. I thought that I saw you on the waitlist page, but I hope I am mistaken.

You're right, Hawkeyes, I don't want to go to a school that would treat me the way they have. Unfortunately, since I'm waitlisted at one school and still waiting to hear from 3 others post-interview, this rejection has gotten me feeling like it's not going to happen for me this year. If they had waitlisted me, I'd still have some hope, but an outright rejection makes me feel like I really screwed up my interview. And since I had thought that the interview had gone ok, it's making me doubt my performance on all my interviews.

I definitely sympathize with what you are going through, but would it have been better if the orginal woman picked up the phone and snapped at you and told you nothing? Probably not, the other thing is you (and people) should wait until like june until you ask what you can do to improve your application when these people have time to really look at your application. These schools right now are in crunch time particularly this year!!!!
