What do you like most?

What do you like least?

  • The school is not accepting of students who do not fit the mold of a traditional midwestern man. Outsiders are not welcome. The school feels this is "serving to produce primary care physicians for Kansas." I believe it has stagnated the academic prowess, cultural diversity, and creativity which lead to strong programs.

Any other information you want to share?

  • The research reputation has suffered recently as well. A large percentage of research funds have been diverted from other programs to fund the National Cancer Center designation. Researchers and physicians are now being pressured to give up their interest to help fund the cancer program. This has caused the removal of a former School of Medicine Dean (Barbra Atchkinson) and led to difficulty recruiting top physician and research faculty. As a result, mediocre faculty has been recruited with promised of exorbitant funding and salary (which is the only way currently able to land candidates.) Unfortunately, this situation is not sustainable and has led to a tarnished reputation and lower quality faculty.
