What do you like most?
-
I think the teachers are all incredibly competent and helpful. Many of the classes are structured well.
-
Boards passing rates are well above average. School is located close enough to Chicago so highly self-motivated students can often find opportunities to work with faculty from other medical schools. Support for research is well above average for an osteopathic school. Student culture is collaborative and very supportive of each other, not competitive. Some faculty are very caring, particularly anatomy.

The education is unmatched in the Osteopathic world. Great preparation for board exams. Great faculty and awesome location
What do you like least?
-
Having to do OMM all quarters through 1st and 2nd year.
-
While I am grateful for the opportunity to become a doctor, I would recommend others stay away from CCOM if you have other options. Most student seem to believe the university administration is 100% in it for the money. Tuition is astronomical (2nd most indebted students behind Midwestern in Arizona, according to US News and World Report), support for board prep, matching advice, specialty mentorship is extremely limited. 0 African American students matriculated from at least 2015-2020 according to AACOM Report on Matriculants. Overall, if this is your only option, you will get a fine education and become a good doctor. That being said, students are mostly unhappy with their experience largely due to the micromanagement of university-wide administration and poor support for career aspirations.
-
Pretty much everything else. Very high cost of attendance. Poor 3rd and 4th year rotations having you drive very far away. Absolutely no help with the match process, guidance for applying to specialties. They do not actually care about you as a medical student, they just want money. I have heard from reliable sources that they actually paid a consulting firm to figure out the maximum tuition they can charge before people will stop applying. Absolute joke.

What are the facilities and clinics like (old/new, well maintained, etc.)?
-
New facility that is updated. Very well maintained. Maybe a bit of bland buildings but nice lecture halls.
-
New, that's where the tuition goes
How do students from this program do after graduation - are they adequately prepared for practice?
-
Very prepared. If you look at the matching statistics, CCOM is by far the most competitive DO program and matches into competitive specialties like gen surg, ortho, urology, etc.
-
Poor residency placement in recent years
-
Graduates go on to be fantastic residents and self sufficient attendings in clinical practice. Unmatched preparation at this institution
What are rotations like?
-
Rotations can either be in the suburbs around downers grove or in the city of chicago.
-
Very poor, lots of clinic based rotations.

How do students from this program do in the Match?
-
Very well. 98% of the class graduating in 2024 got a match. It is by far the most competitive DO school as far as matches go and matches better than many MD schools. In 2024, out of 205 student to start the class, 5 matched anesthesia, 25 EM, 8 Gen surg, 50 internal, 2 Neuro, 5 obgyn, 1 optho, 5 ortho surg, 1 ENT, 5 PM&R, 6 radiology, 7 surg prelim, 1 interventional rad, 2 urology.
-
Poorly in recent years
