PBL seems like a great way to learn. It's actually not as unstructured as I thought it would be. There is some structure to it, and a faculty member is there to help the group guide you in the right direction.
What impressed you negatively?
Their board scores did apparently rise b/c of PBL, but a student told me that what they actually do is have students take a practice board exam. If you don't score above an 80, then you can't take the boards yet. That kinda skews the statistics a bit. Also, the price tag that came along with the school for pretty much teaching yourself the material!
What are your general comments?
The pbl session we had to participate in (basically our interview) was about plumbing. It's just to get a feel as to what PBL is like. the only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that I felt I was competing with other students to say something as quickly as possible. (That's how you're assessed in the interview). And, one of the students I talked to during lunch said the same thing. So even though you're supposed to be in this noncompetitive enviornment, I still feel like it would've ended up being a race as to who can say the first learning need first.
