At the school

How many people interviewed you?

What was the style of the interview?

What type of interview was it?

Open file

What is one of the specific questions they asked you (question 1)?

"Tell me about your major." Report Response | I was asked this question too

What is one of the specific questions they asked you (question 2)?

"What other schools are you looking at?" Report Response | I was asked this question too

What was the most interesting question?

"So, I've got an impression of you from reading your file. Now I want you to tell me how I should think of you, so I can see if it matches my premeditated impression? [WTF?!?]" Report Response | I was asked this question too

What was the most difficult question?

"See above. Almost all other questions were pretty standard. The student interviewer I had was pretty ditzy and clueless. She didn't even really ask me any questions. First thing she said was, "I can see from your file that you're a very smart person. Now do you have any questions for me about UVA?" Worthless." Report Response | I was asked this question too

How did you prepare for the interview?

"Reviewed supplemental application, AMCAS application, personal statement, and this website." Report Response

What impressed you positively?

"Hospital is still pretty new. People tended to be generally nice. " Report Response

What impressed you negatively?

"DIVERSITY, or should I say, lack thereof! Next to Vanderbilt, UVA is probably the least diverse school in the nation. The students I met seemed like bitter JHU rejects, because they constantly talked about how UVA was comparable to other top schools (no, it doesn't, sorry). Charlottesville is a southern college town, nothing more nothing less. The Hospital provides crappier clinical training and serves a less exciting populous than the other two Virginia schools." Report Response

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

"How amazingly average UVA Med is. How are they in the top 30?!?" Report Response

What are your general comments?

"I've already spent 4 years at UVA as an undergrad, so "all the beautiful greenery" didn't impress me as much as other people that have posted on here (It gets old quick, believe me. The Corner is NO comparison to the nightlife in a real city.) The interview itself was rather unorganized: the faculty interviewer looked like he had just woken up from a nap, and all he had were some raggedy notes he had taken on my file. The admissions office was small and kind of ratty, with the meeting room barely big enough for the 6 of us interviewees. The Dean is nice though, even though she it seemed she didn't know her programs very well: I asked her a question about one of the combined degrees and she just referred me to the UVA catalog!"
