What impressed you positively?:
strong emphasis on education with the following tenets: active learning, teach to teach, generalist focused education-emphasis and required to teach med students and fellow residents (they train you how to teach correctly and there is a rotation month in 3rd year for you to specifically do teaching)-simulation lab to learn procedures and do mock codes-resident driven program-required EBM presentation and Advocacy project in order to graduate-have a strong domestic abuse center and a multitude of community outreach programs-opportunity to do international elective(including Costa Rica,Guatemala, Ghana, Mozambique, India)-strong fellowship placement-residents are very happy, laid back, have a lot of fun together and really get along-residents seem to follow the motto: work hard/play hard-have a burn unit (there are very few in the northeast)-have ecmo- huge feedback/critique system to identify strengths and weaknesses-focus on building a strong gen peds foundation regardless if you are specializing- strong service to the underserved population-diverse patient population-diversity among residents-they are DO friendly with osteopaths in each class(no problem getting credit for the AOA internship year)-larger patient census=more pathology, night float except PICU/NICU, rotate at Hahneman for nursery-they seem to be ahead of the ball in terms of what becomes requirements from the residency committees, they say that their model is being used by other residency programs. What impressed you negatively?:
only allowed one month away rotation per year that can also be used to do international elective (may be a problem for those wanting fellowships)-huge academic medicine focus (if you don't like to teach, this may not be the place for you)- increased patient census due to the recent closing of Temple Hospital=increased work- the neighbor is very urban which may not be appealing to everyone Report as inappropriate

All in all, a good day-You interview with a resident and a faculty member-I was actually asked specific questions: why peds, what are your strengths and weaknesses, example of how you demonstrate teamwork in med school, example of a memorable case, most memorable volunteer/extracurricular activity done in med school- the bowling event to get to know the residents is awesome-the residents are so much fun and they are so happy in and out of the hospital.
