What was the style of the interview?:

One-on-one

What impressed you positively?:

Residents were nice. PD gave program data in detail. Good case volume, variety. Trying to educate anesthesiologists for academic practice, but many private practitioners come out as well. Good didactics. Possibility for missions. Hospital facilities nice, 3rd care center, L1 trauma for adults + peds. Anesthesia well-seen by other departments. Full 5 yr accrediation without citations. All computer records in OR by next summer. One can live right next to the hospital. Fellowships available. Leaders in simulation. Report as inappropriate

What impressed you negatively?:

Work pretty hard with pretty heavy call (although not nearly as bad as other programs, this is not a workhorse program), no moonlighting. Few livers, no GI or pulm transplants, few ped hearts. Hershey is a small town next to a large city, with enough but not a lot of things to do. Research requirement. Lots of faculty have left recently, probably due to low salaries, but have been replaced with good faculty. Report as inappropriate

How was your interview day? Please summarize.:

2 day interview. During first day, there were introductory lectures on the program with the chairman and PD and a tour of the hospital. At night, dinner with the residents. The next day consisted of 6 interviews and lunch with the residents. Sat around for at least 2 hours waiting for the closing session with the chairman, which basically consisted of him asking if we found what we were looking for. I thought that was kind of funny because no applicant in their sane mind would ever say “no.” Report as inappropriate
