What impressed you positively?:
PD is secretary for ASA and very connected and will go to bat for you on multiple levels (in residency, looking for a job, fellowship, etc.). They also have an SRNA/CRNA program that will give residents breaks, sub-in for didactics, etc. No competition with them, plenty of good cooperation. Good didactic mix with breaks given by CRNAs so you attend. Pain fellowship with others in works. NeuroICU taken over by anesth. MICU is the best ICU in hosp, run by PulmCC. Trauma surg runs SICU Lots of good hearts - no transplants, liver/panc/kidney transplants. Residents were all happy and glad they came to KU. One thing I found, was that they have taken a few from around the country that switched into anesth. Those residents were super happy. COL is low side of average with good schools for Kids about 15min from hospital, KC is really spread out. Kansas side has really nice neighborhoods with true suburbs 20min from hosp. Missouri side is a little more shady but cool, cheap ole' homes. A few residents live "North" of the river in a MO suburb that has some good schools and cheap housing that is pretty nice. Residents coming out are getting some primo PP jobs = $$ Report as inappropriate
What impressed you negatively?:
Anesth. doesn't run the intern year - hear it is being switched. No heart transplant if that floats your boat. No moonlighting 2 weeks vacation Only pain fellow, but the + is no competition for big cases! Report as inappropriate
How was your interview day? Please summarize.:
Great medium sized program that really went up on my list. The PD and coordinator really take care of residents. I was really surprised at the amount of trauma, transplants, and hearts they do. Worth a look! Report as inappropriate
