Questions

How was your interview day? Please summarize.:

The Bottom Line/Impression: Top program in a great location.
Lodging/Dinner: Cute, “European-style” hotel in downtown Palo Alto, and dinner right across the street.
Schedule: Start at an appropriate time (0800) and end at an appropriate time (1330). Imagine that! Breakfast, and info session w/ Dr. Macario (PD) and Dr. Pearl (chair) followed by 3 full interviews and half an interview with the chair. All very low stress, faculty very well versed in my application, friendly but proud of their institution and the work they do. Lunch with residents who seemed happy, hardworking, and smart people, then tour. Overall a very well organized and executed day – Janine the coordinator has it down to a science.
Program Info: (They didn’t actually say) but I think it’s 22 advanced spots per year. You rotate at Stanford including Packard Peds, the Palo Alto VA, Santa Clara Valley (county hospital), and possibly a same-day surgicenter opening in Redwood City soon.
Pros: Too many to count. All the university amenities at your disposal, high pay, great clinical training, nice atmosphere.
Cons: Cost of living in Palo Alto seems high for what you get (a nice-ish suburb). Traffic. Lots of work hours. Didactics may weak/inconsistent? Hard to tell. Report as inappropriate
