Questions

How long was the interview?:

30 minutes

How many people interviewed you?:

4

What was the style of the interview?:

One-on-one

What impressed you positively?:

Strong emphasis on biological treatment. Other residents were very friendly, program has more work than other midwestern programs but it is still reasonable and residents have lives outside of work. Quality of life in KC is very good and cheap. Report as inappropriate

What impressed you negatively?:

Need to commute 40 min to Topeka for 4 months during Medicine rotation. Very subjective - Weather is colder than what I'm used to but is still manageable. Also, while everybody I met with and 3/4 interviewers were simply amazing, I did have one interviewer who seemed particularly combative, maybe they just didn't like me for some reason or it was a test, but whatever it was, they were definitely an outlier in an otherwise uniformly friendly program. How was your interview day? Please summarize.:

10:30 AM, hot coffee at the main entrance. Then tour of the hospital ans psych facilities till noon. One hour for lunch then 1-5pm, interviews. The general schedule for interviews is half an hour interview then half hour break. Questions are standard (why psych, why here, strength and weakness, etc..). During the break you sit in a conference room where residents drop in and out to answer question and you need to fill out 3 questions and turn in them in (What qualities should a psychiatrist have, what do you hope to bring to the program, and what to you hope to learn in residency).
