What impressed you positively?:
Good clinical training with trauma, transplants, great ICUs, the works. Peds at Children's and OB at BWH in addition to at MGH, so you can sample the best of the other Boston hospitals. Lots of autonomy early on - fewer fellows at MGH than a lot of other academic hospitals. Research is ridiculous - dept has a huge budget including ties with MIT. Residents a diverse class, ranging from single hard-partiers to those with a house/family. Best location of the Boston hospitals. History of the department speaks for itself. Successful graduates in leadership positions in just about every program in the country. Report as inappropriate
What impressed you negatively?:
Boston is waaaay more expensive than it should be. The staggered start schedule is a plus/minus - great if you want a vacation after internship, but also means you won't start with your whole class. CRNAs with a bigger presence here than my other favorite programs. The cardiac has been much maligned on SDN, but it sounds like they're doing their best to turn it around and new surgeons have been hired recently. Report as inappropriate
How was your interview day? Please summarize.:
Dinner the night before in Beacon Hill, hotel discount provided for interviewees. Spend morning with the chair, Dr. Wiener-Kronish, who is very friendly and spent a lot of time talking non-anesthesia with us. Interviews and tours fill the middle of the day, the chiefs spend the most time with you and were really helpful. You do go to the Ether Dome and it's a cool experience for any anesthesia nerd. Wrap-up with the PD, Dr. Baker, in the afternoon - I would describe him as intensely enthusiastic about resident education and is really passionate about creating the best possible educational experience. Overall the most impressive program I saw. Report as inappropriate
