What was the most interesting question?

"Mostly research questions, and some "where do you see yourself in __ years?"-type of questions. Nothing stood out as strange or blindsided me." Report Response

What was the most difficult question?

"They asked a lot of questions about my research, and challenged any assertions I made with questions like, "How do you know that for certain? What could you do to rule out __ as a possibility?" The interviewers were all very kind and respectful (not condescending), but they did make sure you knew what you were talking about." Report Response

How did you prepare for the interview?

"Read my applications (primary and secondary), made sure I was up on all the current literature in my field, read SDN." Report Response

What impressed you positively?

"Nearly everything! The curriculum is really well thought out. The MSTP Committee seems solid and cooperative. Research facilities (especially the new ones) are outstanding. The students seemed very fun and happy there. The interviews are also well-timed, so that you don't feel too rushed (unless you get lost... see below). All exams are taken on the computer (simulating the USMLE), and there are weekly evaluations that help you stay on top of it." Report Response

What impressed you negatively?

"There were not any directions as to how to get from one interview location to another, so I got lost several times and was nearly late on a few occassions." Report Response

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

"It is so easy to get lost on UCLA's campus. Luckily, everyone I ran into was friendly and helpful. Maybe do a dry run of the campus before you go on interview day." Report Response

What are your general comments?

"All aspects of the interview day were wonderful. I thought the school was outstanding on a number of levels. A lot of effort is taken to ensure a solid curriculum, access to advising for MD/PhD students, and good integration of the medical and graduate schools." Report Response
