How did you prepare for the interview?
Many applicants prepared for the interview by participating in mock interviews, utilizing Student Doctor Network (SDN) resources, and researching the school or program online. Others focused on reviewing their personal statements and applications to prepare for potential questions.
Applicants were impressed by the modern and technologically advanced facilities of the school, as well as the welcoming environment and the sense of being heard and valued as students. Many highlighted the newness of the campus and its impact on their overall positive experience.
Applicants were negatively impressed by the external rotations, weather, the location of Kirksville, the emphasis on tourism, and the curriculum structure focusing on studying one subject intensively and taking exams sporadically. Suggestions included improving the exam schedule consistency and reducing the isolation of studying a single subject for long periods.
Curriculum. Students described it as 100% one subject at a time. Studied everything about "chemistry" (example) 8hrs a day until completion and then took an exam. Exam schedule is very sporadic because of this due to some subjects being shorter than others. They said that sometimes you could have one exam and then another on a completely new subject 2 days later.
Applicants commonly wished they had known to relax more during the process and to plan ahead for potential logistical challenges, such as visiting the school in advance to familiarize themselves with the location. Additionally, many applicants expressed a desire for more information on the relocation of dental students and the clinical rotations that take place in different locations during the third and fourth years.
Make sure you see if you can visit the school a day in advance since there's a lot of alley roads you might have to take to get there and it's best if you know where you'll be going a head of time
Applicants commonly expressed concerns about the requirement to relocate during their education and noted that the interview process allowed them to showcase their personality. Suggestions included allowing for more flexibility in the relocation aspect to attract a wider pool of applicants.
The interview is very laid back, I had an interview with someone, and then another interview with someone via skype. Not a huge fan of having to move to Saint Louis half way through my education (I have a family)
What are your suggestions for the admissions office?
Applicants commonly suggested that the admissions office provide more specific information about the class curriculum, as they found the given information to be too general. Additionally, applicants recommended sending thank-you emails to applicants after their interactions with the admissions office.
I would’ve appreciated more specific information about the actual class curriculum. I felt the given info was too general.
