Applicants were positively impressed by the outstanding faculty and resources at NYU, including the impressive library and student center. They also appreciated the enthusiasm of the professors and the diverse range of interests and opportunities available at the university.
Applicants were frequently disappointed by awkward group interview formats, limited individual interaction with professors, rude faculty members, overcrowded interview sessions, and insufficient resources or funding for the department. Suggestions include improving interview formats for better candidate experience, providing more one-on-one interactions with professors, addressing facility issues, and ensuring adequate resources to support applicants and students.
The group interview felt awkward and unnatural. I don't think anyone really came across great in that format. There were 28 people interviewed for 4 spots, and we were divided into groups of 7. Seemed like everyone was trying to quickly throw in their two cents before running out of time...
Many applicants expressed a desire for more information on available funding opportunities before starting the process, highlighting the importance of researching and securing financial support early on.
Applicants commonly expressed feeling disrespected during the application process and highlighted the competitive nature of the interviews, focusing on group dynamics and random questions rather than psychology-related topics. The feedback also mentioned the importance of funding concerns among current students, but overall, applicants appreciated the same-day decision process, optional tour, and good food provided during the interviews.
Awful, I felt like I was incredibly disrespected as an applicant.
Very short. 40 people competing for 4 spots. Group interviews with 6 prospective students and 2 faculty, random questions not necessarily related to psychology. Group dynamics seemed most important. Then group interviews with students, who griped about lack of funding but seemed happy otherwise. Optional tour led by student. Good food. You most likely will find out that day whether you're in or not.
