✅ Interview Preparation and Impressions

How is the friendliness of the admissions office?

How is the responsiveness of the admissions office?

How did you prepare for the interview?

I read up on the research of Dr. Wagner and Dr. Jobes and had read several books on suicide including Joiner's book Why People Die By Suicide. I had not read Jobes' new book on CAMS yet.

What impressed you positively?

I liked the campus, the students seemed nice, faculty seemed approachable. I like the Catholic atmosphere, but I have always gone to Catholic schools.

What impressed you negatively?

The program is 50/50 clinical and research and for me that is a bit too clinical. Also, the funding is not competitive with a lot of other schools.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

I didn't realize just how expensive it was to live in DC or how weak the funding was until I visited.

What are your general comments?

Overall the interviews were good but it wasn't a great interview day. There were no activities other than the interviews whatsoever so my day was spent sitting in a waiting room for 6 hours talking with a current student and eating their food. It was alright, I learned a lot, but it didn't compare well with some of the other interview weekends I attended. The interviews were straight-forward and fair and I felt that I learned a lot about the program, but unfortunately it was all through the eyes of that one graduate student (who was amazingly helpful, don't get me wrong, but more diversity would have been nice). A campus tour would have been nice as well, but oh well.
