"The seem to really stress didactics and hand-holding methods. The residents were enthusiastic about the program. They have FANTASTIC HOUSING! Residents seem to go to great (but not amazing) residencies. Great regional program"

"One of the biggest strengths of this program is the regional anesthesia experience. About 30% of their cases are performed with regional with the surgeons being very receptive to it. Most often the surgeons are the ones requesting it. "

"Housing isn't furnished. They hire DOs and FMGs and a only a few MD allopathic students (mainly from SUNY schools). Other specialities in anesthesia seem to be limited. There is a possibility this hospital may close given then numerous closings in hospitals in NYC in recent years. The interview day didn't seem well run."

"The program does not pay for parking which in NYC can be expensive.
Another negative from my point of view was the length of the interviews (VERY SHORT).
The main complaint last year was that they were overworked (staying until 7pm regularly leaving very little time to read). This year they have hired CRNAs which has resulted in them being "happier" but that was compared to last year - some of the residents definitely seemed tired and not as energetic as compared to other programs "

"Go in to the tiny library and squeeze by for breakfast. Sit around talking to other applicants. Listen to morning presentation. Wait around for 2-3 hours for interviews to happen. EVERYONE interviews with the same two people so we all go one at a time. There is a lot of down time. Then repeat squeezing by tables for lunch. Then tour. The home"

"Chair is super awesome and personable. The word is out, St. Luke's Roosevelt may become the best deal in NYC. Hours are now improved drastically. Residents report around 55-60 hours on avg. More CRNAs are being hired. Chair is a resident advocate and suggests that lower work hours will improve scholarly activities. VERY VERY VERY NICE Housing is provided at a reduced rate. 1 bedroom for around 1500-2000 right next to columbus circle/ central park....that is unheard off. Studio for around 1100. Regional, Cardiac and Pain are the highlights of this program. I was very impressed at the end of the day. CBY1 is now included, combo of med/surg/icu/ER/anes."

"About 10 people interviewed (1-2 DO's but DO presence is minimal ) and they have about 40 dates they give out
Not sure if they interview 400 total but seems like a lot for the number of positions.
The overall day starts prior to 9am where you get a light breakfast and are given an anonymous quiz (one question asking what type of school you are from i.e. AMG, FMG, DO and another asking principles as noted by ACGME --- does NOT count for anything so don't stress).

You then get an hour long powerpoint presentation about the program followed by two interviews. Residents come and go while you wait (fairly long waits considering they only interview you from 3-5 min with chair and slightly longer at 7-10 min with the 2nd person).
This is followed by a tour of the housing apartments (One was not bad but one seemed totally run down but since its around 58th street, its hard to complain). If you really wanted, you could ask for tours of the PACU and ORs (most people chose not to). After the tour, you're done. Day ends around 12:30-1ish"
