What impressed you negatively?:

Location is a negative for me - both in terms of size of Rochester, MN and location in the country. However, Rochester seemed very livable: minimal daily commute times, lower cost of living, everything right there. Really liked the wellness center near the hospitals. Ended up thinking it would ok to be a single person there. Wasn't sure about the pediatric inpatient numbers - seemed quite low. Not sure how addition of fellow will affect peds experience. How was your interview day? Please summarize.:

Night before dinner at local restaurant meet the residents. Day starts at 7:30 with breakfast and presentation by chair. She had clearly read our applications carefully. Then group split up - 1/2 had tour before lunch, interviews after; other half the reverse. Standard is 4 interviews but if interested in research will set up fifth for you to learn about research programs. Interviews 30 minutes in length. Lunch was sandwiches or salad with more chance to talk to residents. Tour was extensive. (Lots of walking - be sure to follow advice to wear comfortable shoes.) Day ended around 3:30pm.
