"I went in expecting the interviewers to be old-school/stuffy, but was pleasantly surprised at how down to earth all of the interviewers were. They were definitely not just looking for numbers, but instead for individuals who would fit in with the Mayo model of healthcare. The PD, Dr. De Ruyter, was very approachable and seemed like a strong resident advocate. Oh, and did I mention that THE HOSPITAL WAS AMAZING?? It is only 3 years old and they have amazing areas for the anesthesia residents including their own lounge with kitchen and flat screen as well as amazing call rooms that felt more like a hotel…each with their own bathroom and flat screen televisions. Also all of the ORs have electronic charting. They now have an agreement with one of the local Jacksonville hospitals for their OB rotation, but residents can still choose to rotate with travel expenses paid at Wake Forest since it is such a strong OB program. Residents can also rotate at both of the other Mayo sites in Rochester and Arizona. Strong Peds at Nemours Children Hospital in Jacksonville. Mayo Jacksonville is the largest liver transplant program in the nation and has one of the top regional and pain fellowships. Also several nationally recognized Anesthesiologists and textbook authors including Dr. Murray of “Morgan, Mikhail, and Murray” Lange text that every program uses…look in the front cover...I noticed this after returning from my interview."
