What do you like most about this school?

All of the people-- the students, the professors and the administration is enthusiastic, genuine and friendly, making it a great place to learn medicine. The community is strong and supportive and there is a lot going on (both academically and otherwise) that makes it an exciting place to be. Everyone here is passionate about medicine and doctoring.

What do you like least about this school?

Things are always the most organized. On the large scale, Hopkins is somewhat decentralized, leading to a fair amount of bureaucratic work to get things done.

Please do not pay attention to the rumors regarding the school being "cut throat" or snobby. I have loved my time here and have not found that to be true at all.

For basic science classes, usually 1-2 hours a day is small group and technically required attendance (but not very strictly enforced.) 1-2 afternoons a week are devoted to clinical courses and are mandatory attendance (~3 hours).

An atlas and dissector are essential for anatomy, other than that, the core material is covered in the syllabus, however people find review books helpful for many classes (Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple for micro, etc...)

How is the instructional faculty during pre-clinical years?

In general, they are very accesible, open and helpful. The course directors of each unit are incredibly dedicated and spend a large amount of time listening and responding to student feedback. Individual lectures can be more or less acessible, however the general attitude is very open.
