Read papers by POI & details about program
-
Read articles. Not a lot of time to prepare because I was given last-minute notice to fly out. Wasted $1000 on a plane ticket. Well, I guess it made me appreciate other schools more.

Students were really nice.
-
The administrative people are very pleasant. Other than that, the fact that they are able to attract any graduate students at all.
What impressed you negatively?
Applicants were negatively impressed by relatively poor funding, feeling like a backup school during interviews, long wait times, excessive focus on gifted & talented assessments, and negative comments from professors. Suggestions included improving funding, addressing scheduling issues, diversifying practicum experiences, and fostering a more positive and supportive atmosphere among faculty and students.
-
Relatively poor funding compared to other schools I applied to. At times during the interview, I felt that people hinted that this was a backup school for me (which was true, but awkward to bring up). Also, my interview was scheduled so that I was done interviewing by 10am but had to sit in the common room until about 4 pm. Seemed like practicum consisted of way too much gifted & talented assessment - but that the faculty were responsive to student feedback on this and were trying to change it.
-
One professor said, ''I like research that makes good conversation at cocktail parties.'' Another said that all of the students hate the program. All of them?? Yes, all of them.
What did you wish you had known ahead of time?
Applicants commonly wished they had known more details about the level of funding available and about the general sentiment among current students.
