How did you prepare for the interview?
Most applicants prepared for the interview by utilizing Student Doctor Network (SDN) for resources, practicing common interview questions, and researching the specific school by reviewing its website and seeking feedback from current students or alumni. Some also engaged in mock interviews, watched YouTube videos for guidance, and prepared specific answers to questions about why they were interested in the school.
This was my third interview so I mostly just noted down specific things I really like about Touro and its program so I can answer the why touro question well.
Applicants were consistently impressed by the enthusiasm of current students, the friendliness of the faculty, and the emphasis on an open-door policy. They also highlighted the conversational and comfortable interview experience, the advanced technology and modern facilities, as well as the collaborative and efficient learning environment. Suggestions included maintaining the positive atmosphere and continuing to prioritize student comfort and engagement.
current students seemed enthusiastic about the school, faculties were nice, and they seemed to really emphasize the open door policy
1. The facility of the school and how nice every faculty was.
2. They set up the entire clinical cubicle just like any other private practice. This gives patients more privacy during treatment.
3. Students work in pairs (one main doc and one assist). This model allows a greater efficiency and students get to learn the aspect of being an assistant as well, which will be beneficial in the future if they want to set up a private practice.
4. There are no dispensary station and all the equipment and materials are accessible in every cubicle --> Time efficiency.
Applicants were negatively impacted by the lack of a formal presentation, feeling rushed or interrupted during interviews, encountering interviewers with accents that were difficult to understand, and interacting with students who appeared unenthusiastic. Suggestions include improving interview structure for more meaningful interactions, ensuring interviewers are clear and engaging, and potentially providing more information sessions or presentations for a better overall experience.
there was no presentation just students answering the questions then a quick interview. The guy interviewing me was cutting me off and seemed to be in hurry to get elsewhere hence it was not a pleasant experience.
They don't give any presentations like other schools. It was divided in two parts: a student Q&A and interview. The negative part is that the dental student for the Q&A was only a second-year so she didn't really know the answers to most questions we had on the clinical side of the school. Otherwise she's also really friendly and awesome!
my interviewer was old and had a thick accent, i could not understand him, he didnt really ask me "dental interview" questions, felt like I could have better sold myself with a different interviewer
The interviewer had a list of questions and had to hit every question quickly without allowing time to really respond. Seemed to be an issue with other interviewees. The clinical facilities were modern but almost empty at 2pm on a Wednesday. They do not have a D4 class yet but there should still be plenty of patients in the chairs for routine work that D3s can do.
Applicants commonly wished they had known ahead of time that the interview process would be low-stress, relaxed, and that interacting with current students was a positive experience. They also mentioned that knowing more details about the interview setup, such as the format and the identity of the interviewer, would have been helpful.
That it was going to be super low-stress and relaxed
Applicants generally found the interview experience positive and engaging, with some noting the importance of technology in Touro's approach to dentistry. Suggestions were made to improve aspects such as the interview process and presentation quality.
Touro is new and strives to modernize dentistry with the help of technology. I believe that is an important goal and will prepare the students for the future of dentistry.
I enjoyed speaking with my interviewer. He went out of his way for me to meet students after the interview. he introduced me to a student after the interview. Know you your application!
What are your suggestions for the admissions office?
Applicants suggested that the admissions office should provide more informative and engaging presentations about the school's curriculum, community service involvement, and financial aid options during the admissions process to enhance the overall experience and attract potential students.
Touro has a great potential to become one of the best dental schools in the country. Be proud of your curriculum and clinical training program, and make sure you sell the school well.
