Creighton University, established in 1878, is a private Jesuit institution located in Omaha, Nebraska. The university offers a Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program through its School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. This program is recognized as a top-20 occupational therapy program by U.S. News & World Report. Creighton was the first in the nation to offer an entry-level OTD program and has since expanded to include innovative hybrid pathways in Anchorage, Denver, and Phoenix.
The OTD curriculum at Creighton is built around three primary themes: occupation, professional practice, and professional identity. These themes are interwoven with leadership and Ignatian values, reflecting the university's Jesuit tradition. Interprofessional education is a foundational element, with students participating in collaborative care courses and activities. The program culminates in a Doctoral Capstone Experience, allowing students to explore areas such as advanced clinical practice, research, administration, leadership, program and policy development, advocacy, education, and theory development.
Creighton's Omaha campus features the CL and Rachel Werner Center for Health Sciences Education, which houses state-of-the-art occupational therapy labs. These facilities provide hands-on learning experiences in simulated environments, including standardized patient interactions and home care settings. The Phoenix hybrid pathway offers similar experiential learning opportunities at Creighton's Health Science Campus in midtown Phoenix, a 195,000-square-foot facility designed to promote interactive and interdisciplinary learning.
