About the School

The City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center offers a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program through a consortium with Brooklyn College and Hunter College. This program prepares students for New York State licensure and national certification, enabling them to provide comprehensive services to individuals with hearing loss. In 2023, the CUNY Board of Trustees approved transferring the degree-granting authority from the Graduate Center to Brooklyn College, with the administrative move scheduled for Fall 2025. Despite this transition, there will be no changes to faculty, clinical sites, or curriculum.

Curriculum

The Au.D. curriculum integrates academic coursework with extensive clinical training. Students engage in early identification, comprehensive assessment, and audiologic habilitative/rehabilitative services for a diverse population. The program emphasizes delivering exceptional hearing and vestibular assessment and management services, advocating for individuals with hearing and/or vestibular impairments, and contributing to clinical science and professional development.

Facilities

Facilities supporting the Au.D. program include the Graduate Center Audiology Suite, equipped with behavioral audiologic test instrumentation, acoustic immittance measurement tools, otoacoustic emissions equipment, evoked potentials technology, video otoscope, VNG equipment, digital amplification technology, and an earmold laboratory. Clinical training also occurs at the Speech and Hearing Centers located on the Brooklyn and Hunter College campuses, providing students with diverse hands-on experiences.

Demographics

The program maintains a relatively small cohort size to ensure an outstanding faculty-to-student ratio, fostering close academic and personal relationships. The student body is diverse, reflecting the multicultural, multiethnic population of the New York metropolitan area. This diversity enriches the learning environment and prepares students to serve a wide range of communities effectively.

Why no Tier Rankings?

Although we could tier rank, over the past 25 years we've found no compelling benefit for ranking schools. Students are most successful when they prioritize personal and academic fit over school rank.
