Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DUQCOM) welcomed its inaugural class in July 2024, marking a significant expansion of Duquesne University's commitment to healthcare education. The college aims to address the national shortage of primary care physicians, particularly in underserved urban and rural areas. With an initial enrollment of 85 students, DUQCOM plans to increase annual enrollment to 170 students by 2026, ultimately reaching a total enrollment of 680 students across all four years by the 2029-2030 academic year.
DUQCOM's curriculum is designed to produce physician leaders in all medical specialties, with a focus on primary care. The program emphasizes holistic patient care, integrating osteopathic principles that treat the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Students engage in extensive community engagement projects addressing healthcare disparities as part of their training. The college has also established partnerships with healthcare providers to offer clinical placements, ensuring comprehensive hands-on experience.
The 80,600-square-foot DUQCOM building features a state-of-the-art simulation hospital equipped with an operating room, intensive care unit, emergency department, labor and delivery room, ultrasound lab, and outpatient exam rooms. Additionally, the facility includes a HoloAnatomy lab that integrates augmented reality learning platforms with holographic imaging technology, and an Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Clinical Skills Lab.
The inaugural class of 2028 comprises 91 students, with approximately two-thirds hailing from Pennsylvania and 32% identifying as minorities. This composition reflects DUQCOM's commitment to increasing diversity within the medical profession and addressing healthcare disparities in underserved communities.

Although we could tier rank, over the past 25 years we've found no compelling benefit for ranking schools. Students are most successful when they prioritize personal and academic fit over school rank.
