About the School

The Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine (MCASOM) is a nationally recognized medical school with campuses in Rochester, Minnesota; Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; and Jacksonville, Florida. It offers both M.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. programs, emphasizing a patient-centered approach to medical education. With a 3:1 full-time faculty-to-student ratio, students benefit from personalized instruction and mentorship. Additionally, learners have access to over 3,700 Mayo Clinic clinicians and researchers across all campuses, fostering a collaborative and research-intensive environment.

Curriculum

MCASOM’s four-year M.D. curriculum is structured into three phases: Pre-Clerkship (18 months), Clerkship (18 months), and Post-Clerkship (12 months). The Pre-Clerkship phase focuses on foundational medical knowledge, incorporating enrichment weeks for career exploration and additional academic opportunities. During the Clerkship phase, students engage in eight core clinical rotations. The Post-Clerkship phase includes subinternships, elective rotations, a virtual Social Medicine rotation, a Transition to Residency course, a Health Systems Science Integration course, and an Internship Boot Camp conducted at the Simulation Center.

Facilities

Each MCASOM campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support medical education. In Rochester, the Mitchell Student Center serves as the hub for student activities and resources. The Arizona campus features the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine building, which includes a 1,600-square-foot gross anatomy lab, breakout rooms, a student lounge, study spaces, and administrative offices. The Florida campus houses the Stabile Buildings, containing medical education administrative offices, a simulation center, a library, and resident lounges. Additionally, the Multidisciplinary Simulation Centers across campuses offer high-fidelity simulators and advanced audiovisual equipment for experiential learning.

Demographics

MCASOM maintains a small class size to foster a close-knit learning environment. In 2024, the first-year class comprises 50 students at the Phoenix/Scottsdale campus and 56 students at the Rochester campus. Additionally, 13 students will complete their training at the Jacksonville campus.
