Nova Southeastern University (NSU) offers a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program through its Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The program is one of only six in the United States to hold dual accreditation from both the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE). This distinction underscores NSU's commitment to maintaining high educational standards in audiology education.
The Au.D. curriculum spans four years and integrates academic coursework with extensive clinical training. Students begin clinical assignments in their first year, progressively increasing their involvement to prepare for direct patient care. The program culminates in a full-time, 12-month clinical externship during the fourth year, designed to provide comprehensive hands-on experience and readiness for professional practice upon graduation.
NSU's audiology program boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a dedicated student laboratory and a comprehensive on-campus audiology clinic equipped with the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies. These resources support a wide range of clinical services and provide students with exposure to diverse patient populations. Additionally, the program maintains affiliations with various clinical training sites throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, offering students diverse clinical experiences in settings such as hospitals, private practices, public schools, and medical facilities.
The audiology program at NSU attracts a diverse student body, reflecting the university's broader commitment to cultural and linguistic diversity. As a majority-minority institution with students from more than 100 different countries, NSU offers rich cultural and linguistic diversity and brings unique patient engagement opportunities where a person-centered approach is vital.
