About the School

New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development offers a comprehensive Entry-Level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (EL-OTD) program. This 94-credit, three-year curriculum is designed for individuals holding a bachelor's degree in fields other than occupational therapy, aiming to prepare them for licensure as occupational therapists. The program emphasizes leadership, scholarship, advocacy, and advanced clinical competence, providing students with diverse fieldwork and research opportunities in the dynamic environment of New York City. NYU's occupational therapy program is ranked among the top 5% nationwide by U.S. News & World Report.

Curriculum

The EL-OTD curriculum includes a series of part-time Level I Fieldwork experiences and two full-time Level II Fieldwork experiences, allowing students to connect academic learning with clinical practice through directed observation and participation in the occupational therapy process. The program culminates in a 14-week doctoral capstone experiential component, where students work with faculty and site mentors to design, implement, and disseminate an innovative response to an identified practice or professional need. This capstone provides in-depth exposure to a specific area of interest, preparing students with advanced knowledge and skills in leadership, scholarship, advocacy, and clinical competence.

Facilities

New York University’s Occupational Therapy facilities are housed within Steinhardt’s modern urban campus in Greenwich Village and integrated into NYU Langone Health’s extensive network of clinical and educational spaces. Students benefit from dedicated OT classrooms and skill labs equipped for hands‑on learning, including areas for anatomical study and adaptive equipment training. They also have access to NYU Langone’s state‑of‑the‑art clinical sites such as Tisch Hospital, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center, where they engage in supervised fieldwork alongside licensed professionals. In addition, NYU’s broader campus offers premier academic and wellness resources like Bobst Library, athletic spaces, theaters, and collaborative hubs—supporting both learning and wellbeing within one cohesive environment.
