The OU College of Medicine has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, producing physicians who are devoted to patient care and contribute to the knowledge base of medicine. Another strong tradition on our campus is a supportive environment for students - one that reflects the basic friendly attitude of the Midwest and focuses on the well-being of our students during the medical school journey. We invite you to share our journey as we "Reach for Excellence."
The OU medical curriculum is designed to provide an integrated overview of human biology and behavior, to encourage students to embrace self-directed learning and to develop professional behaviors. Themes of the curriculum include professionalism, integration, clinical skills, and learning through patient care. Scholarly activity and research are available. There is an emphasis on the academic and social support of students.
Preclinical instruction in the College of Medicine is conducted primarily in the Basic Sciences Educational Building. A student's home base is the "module" in the building; a student and laboratory area shared with 18 to 20 classmates. The offices and laboratories of basic sciences faculty are located in the Biomedical Sciences Building and the Stanton L. Young Biomedical Research Center. Most of the full-time clinical faculty in Oklahoma City are housed in OUHSC buildings, including the G. Rainey Williams Pavilion, constructed in the early 1970s. A Student Center offers food service, meeting rooms, Student Association offices, fitness center, conference and study rooms and computer facilities.

Although we could tier rank, over the past 25 years we've found no compelling benefit for ranking schools. Students are most successful when they prioritize personal and academic fit over school rank.
