About the School

Syracuse University's Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The program aims to prepare audiology practitioners with a solid foundation in the basic sciences, provide comprehensive coursework and supervised clinical practicum experiences, and expose students to research to develop evidence-based clinical practice skills. Graduates meet the requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and New York State licensure. Applicants with a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution are eligible, regardless of their undergraduate major, though additional coursework may be required to meet ASHA general education requirements.

Curriculum

The Au.D. curriculum at Syracuse University encompasses didactic coursework and supervised clinical practicum experiences necessary to develop competencies in areas outlined by ASHA, including Foundations of Practice, Prevention and Identification, and Evaluation and Treatment. The program also offers a combined Au.D./Ph.D. degree for students interested in both professional and research doctoral degrees, allowing them to pursue clinical and research training in a streamlined program. Applicants to the dual program should have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and meet GRE requirements.

Facilities

The Gebbie Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic serves as the primary facility for the Au.D. program, offering state-of-the-art educational, clinical, and research resources. The clinic includes seven speech therapy rooms, two large group therapy rooms, two sound booths for hearing testing, a hearing aid fitting room that simulates everyday listening environments, and an auditory brainstem response and vestibular testing room. These facilities provide students with hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of licensed professionals.

Demographics

Syracuse University is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive campus environment. As of the 2022–2023 academic year, 27.5% of students identify as people of color, 13% are first-generation college students, and 3,180 students are served by the Center for Disability Resources.
