Texas A&M University School of Engineering Medicine, known as EnMed, is a pioneering program that integrates engineering and medicine to train "physicianeers"—physicians with engineering expertise. Located in Houston's Texas Medical Center, EnMed offers a unique four-year curriculum culminating in both a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree. This collaborative initiative involves Texas A&M's College of Medicine, College of Engineering, and Houston Methodist Hospital, aiming to revolutionize healthcare through innovation and practical solutions.
The EnMed curriculum is designed to blend medical education with engineering principles, preparing students to develop and implement medical technologies. Students engage in hands-on clinical experiences at Houston Methodist Hospital, Texas' top-ranked hospital, while also participating in engineering training focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. This integrated approach ensures that graduates are equipped to address complex healthcare challenges through technological advancements.
EnMed operates within a recently renovated 17-story facility at 1020 Holcombe Boulevard in Houston. The building features state-of-the-art laboratories, a design and prototyping center, and collaborative spaces that foster creativity and innovation. These facilities provide students with the resources necessary to translate novel medical technologies from concept to real-world application.
