About the School

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine, established in 2006, is a public medical school located in Orlando, Florida. The college comprises the medical school and the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, both situated on UCF's Health Sciences Campus in Lake Nona Medical City. The current Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean is Deborah German. The college is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).

Curriculum

The UCF College of Medicine offers a four-year M.D. program that integrates basic and clinical sciences throughout all years. The first two years focus on systems-based modules designed around clinical cases, providing a deep understanding of both normal and abnormal pathophysiology. Clinical experiences are embedded early through the Community of Practice program, where students work with community preceptors in various settings. Additionally, students complete a Focused Individualized Research Experience (FIRE) over the first two years, allowing them to pursue research projects aligned with their interests. Innovative simulation experiences are also integrated to reinforce learning.

Facilities

The College of Medicine is located on UCF's Health Sciences Campus in Lake Nona Medical City, a 50-acre campus on the eastern edge of Orlando. The campus includes the Medical Education building, the Burnett Biomedical Sciences Research Building, UCF Lake Nona Hospital, Lake Nona Cancer Center, Nemours Children's Hospital, Orlando VA Medical Center, and the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute. The campus also features amenities such as a nature preserve, walking paths, a student lounge with recreational facilities, and a gym with exercise equipment.

Demographics

As of Spring 2023, UCF's total enrollment was 69,320 students, including 478 medical professional students and 577 residents. The College of Medicine has a faculty of over 1,100 members. In the M.D. program, the Class of 2024 had an average GPA of 3.94 and an average MCAT score of 514.
