The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry improves oral and craniofacial health by educating clinicians and scientists who translate knowledge and experience into clinical practice.
The dental and dental hygiene programs emphasize scientific, scholarly, interpersonal communication and practice management skills required of graduates in a continually changing profession. Career planning is integrated into the core curriculum. Teaching methods are tailored to course content and include traditional lectures, small group tutorials, cooperative learning teams, routine laboratories and advanced simulation, clinical practice in a comprehensive care facility and community-based clinical experiences. All fourth-year dental students spend four to six weeks in outreach programs.
The School of Dentistry, located in the extensive health sciences complex on the east bank of the Minneapolis campus, offers Minnesota's only professional course in dentistry. Its main offices, classrooms, clinics, laboratories, and reading and learning resource rooms are in the Malcolm Moos Health Sciences Tower, which provides an innovative setting for education, dental practice, and research.
