The University of Louisville offers a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program through its School of Medicine, designed to equip students with the academic and clinical expertise necessary for audiologic practice. This four-year post-bachelor's degree program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The program is physically located at the University of Louisville Health Sciences Campus and administratively housed within the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery & Communicative Disorders.
The Au.D. curriculum spans four years, beginning with a focus on classroom instruction and gradually increasing clinical exposure. In the first year, students engage in courses such as Anatomy and Physiology of Hearing, Essential Techniques in Audiometry, and Acoustics and Speech Acoustics, complemented by initial clinical clerkships. As the program progresses, students delve into advanced topics like Electrophysiologic Techniques, Amplification Technology, and Pediatric Audiology. The final year is dedicated to full-time clinical externships, providing comprehensive hands-on experience in diverse audiologic settings.
The University of Louisville's audiology program offers students a variety of clinical placements both on and off-site. Students are immersed in clinical practice from the first semester, observing at on-site clinics, and are encouraged to actively participate in clinical practicum starting in the second semester. As students progress, they are placed at off-site clinic placements throughout Louisville and its surrounding cities, allowing them a diverse and comprehensive range of clinical experiences.
The University of Louisville's Doctor of Audiology program currently enrolls 23 students across its doctoral programs. The faculty manages a university-sanctioned private practice, providing students with real-world experiences in diagnostic testing, hearing aid selection and fitting, billing, and practice management. This integration of academic and practical training ensures that graduates are well-prepared for diverse audiologic careers.

Although we could tier rank, over the past 25 years we've found no compelling benefit for ranking schools. Students are most successful when they prioritize personal and academic fit over school rank.
