About the School

The University of South Florida (USF) offers a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program through its Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. This four-year, full-time, 111-credit residential program is designed to prepare students for careers as clinical audiologists. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. USF also provides a dual degree option, allowing students to pursue both Au.D. and Ph.D. degrees within approximately six years, focusing on clinical service delivery and independent research in hearing science and clinical audiology.

Curriculum

The Au.D. curriculum encompasses comprehensive coursework, including subjects such as auditory anatomy and physiology, psychoacoustics, audiology instrumentation, advanced speech science, audiology counseling across the lifespan, medical audiology, principles of amplification, speech perception and sensorineural hearing loss, vestibular evaluation and treatment, aural rehabilitation across the lifespan, hearing conservation, and cochlear implants. Students are also required to complete clinical practica, a doctoral research project, comprehensive examinations, and a national examination in audiology.

Facilities

USF's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders houses state-of-the-art facilities, including the USF Hearing Clinic and Speech-Language Clinic, which offer a full array of services in a modern environment equipped with the latest diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative equipment. The department also features an audiology teaching laboratory and 17 research labs, providing students with ample opportunities for hands-on learning and research.
