About the School

The University of Southern Mississippi offers a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program through its School of Speech and Hearing Sciences, located on the Hattiesburg campus. Curriculum

Coursework covers topics such as aural rehabilitation, cochlear implants, counseling, electrophysiology, hearing aids, hearing conservation, pharmacology, and psychosocial aspects. Students engage in clinical practica starting in their first year, progressing from on-campus facilities to local audiology practices, and culminating in a nine-month externship during the fourth year. To graduate, students must pass a qualifying exam in the second year, a comprehensive exam in the third year, and the national Praxis II examination in Audiology.

Facilities

The program provides access to state-of-the-art facilities, including the USM Speech-Language-Audiology Clinic, which has been serving the community for over 50 years. This clinic offers assessment and treatment services for a diverse range of speech and hearing disorders and serves as a training ground for students under the supervision of certified faculty. Additionally, students have opportunities to observe and assist in the DuBard School and The Children's Center, enhancing their clinical experience.
