The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS) is a private institution dedicated to developing professional healthcare practitioners through innovative and quality education. Established in 1979, USAHS offers graduate programs across five campuses located in St. Augustine and Miami, Florida; Austin and Dallas, Texas; and San Marcos, California. The university provides a range of degrees, including Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD), Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT), and various post-professional and continuing education programs. USAHS is institutionally accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and holds programmatic accreditations with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
The entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program at USAHS is designed to prepare students for licensure and practice in all 50 states. The curriculum includes comprehensive coursework and clinical field experiences. The program is offered across multiple campuses, including San Marcos, CA; St. Augustine, FL; Miami, FL; Austin, TX; and Dallas, TX. Graduation rates for the OTD program vary by campus, with on-time graduation rates ranging from 74% to 96% over recent years.
USAHS campuses are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the learning experience. The Miami campus features an inpatient, outpatient, and home care Simulation Center with an 8-bed hospital setting, assessment rooms, driving simulator, VR simulation equipment, 3D printers, robotics, cadaver lab, and Anatomage tables. Similarly, the St. Augustine campus offers advanced simulation centers that mimic various clinical settings, including a 10-bed hospital simulation, VR equipment, 3D printers, and robotics. These facilities provide students with immersive, hands-on learning opportunities.
The occupational therapy student body at USAHS is predominantly female, reflecting a substantial gender imbalance in the field. In 2023, approximately 72 % of all degrees awarded across the university went to women, and within professional doctorates, the female-to-male ratio was even more pronounced: about 8.4 women graduated with an OT degree for every man. Ethnically, the student population is diverse—overall college-wide data show around 46 % of enrolled students are White, 19 % Hispanic or Latino, 12.5 % Asian, and 11.6 % Black or African American, with smaller percentages for other groups. Specifically in OT, minority representation among master’s graduates was about 26 %, slightly above national averages. Retention and graduation outcomes are strong across gender and racial/ethnic groups in the OT track.
