What impressed you positively?

The location, Southern California, the rotations available in 3rd and 4th years.

What impressed you negatively?

The fact that the campus really is a renovated strip mall, and it's obvious. When I asked about the high drop out rate of first year students (I asked two different people) they gave reasonable explanations for why students might leave (ie. family problems, pregnancy, etc) that might cause a student to leave any institution. However, they did not account for why that rate is higher at this school than others.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

No unanticipated problems.

What are your general comments?

To sum up my feelings about Western, I would have to say that as a medical school, it is sufficient and acceptable; but not much more. Nothing really impressed me about the school or its curriculum except that the rotations in the third and fourth years are numerous (150+) and of high quality (all across the nation and some international ones as well). However, I must admit that I don't know much about the rotations at other schools and this could very well be something one could find at any school. Although Western is sufficient and acceptable (in terms of being an accredited medical school that trains people to be physicians) I feel that it is pushing the limits of what is sufficient and acceptable. I would go here, but it would be because of the fact that the shortcomings of the school would be compensated by other things such as the SoCal atmoshpere and the presence of my fiance who would be in grad school at another school in the area. If it weren't for those things I would not go to Western.
