💬 Interview Questions

What is one of the specific questions they asked you?

Have you gotten any pointers about what to do or say during an interview? Where did you get those pointers and what were they? (awkward...)
Tell me about a particular individual you encountered or experience you had while shadowing/volunteering? (This question was repeated approx. 3 or 4 times)
Typical abortion question. They want to see if you would let your own beliefs get in the way of allowing your patients free will.

What was the most interesting question?

If you were the surgeon general of NY and were concerned with the health of the citizens, what kind of program would you set up to deal with your concerns? (Extremely open-ended, but they wanted DETAILS...spent 30 minutes "discussing" this question)

What was the most difficult question?

See above. The interviewer sort of guided me through the answer because she wanted me to say something specific. In the end, I just felt like I was being lectured on how the interviewer felt. As most students would only be able to give a generalized answer, especially without any training, I'm not sure what good it did to spend so much time on it.

✅ Interview Preparation and Impressions

How is the friendliness of the admissions office?

No responses

How is the responsiveness of the admissions office?

How did you prepare for the interview?

This was my 7th interview. Reviewed current events, health care issues. Researched the school. SDN.

What impressed you positively?

The students seemed pretty laid back. The lunch was surprisingly tasty. How the anatomy lab is set up.

What impressed you negatively?

The facilities. How poor the directions given to me to the school and admissions office were. How the students seemed rather indifferent about AMC.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

Not much. The only surprising thing I learned was about the Anatomy Lab. Students learn about a particular organ system in class and then dissect that organ system in lab. Makes sense, but hopefully there's something to tie everything together.

What are your general comments?

Overall, a negative experience, but I don't think that reflects the school very much. I had trouble finding the Admissions Office, so give yourself time (and no one who works there seems to know where it is either). My first interviewer should not have been evaluating me because he/she forgot everything I said, asked me the same question 3 times (multiple times), interrupted me constantly (wasn't listening to my answers), and in general was just too old to comprehend anything. He/she asked the typical ethical questions like abortion, and after I responded, had to clarify by saying "So, you are pro-choice?" There is a difference between how you would handle a situation in your own life and how you would handle the same situation with a patient. I'm extremely disappointed that they are still allowing this individual to have a say in who attends AMC. The 2nd interviewer was even worse, although seemed more "with it." He/she didn't seem to care at all about my application and only asked a few questions about me as a formality. He/she only seemed to be interested in discussing topics like the one I mentioned in the "most interested/difficult question." I have no idea how our conversation helped her to evaluate me as a hopeful medical student. However, I don't think my experience interviewing actually reflects the medical school.
