✅ Interview Preparation and Impressions

How is the responsiveness of the admissions office?

How did you prepare for the interview?

Read up on the Duke curriculum. Talked to my student host the night before about the school. Read up my AMCAS application, secondary application, etc.

What impressed you positively?

My student host and other MS1's were a very warm and friendly bunch. Cost of living in Durham is dirt cheap.

What impressed you negatively?

I just left with a less-than-optimal vibe. The faculty and upper-year students I met struck me as being rather elitist. The whole ''this is Duke so once you're in and one of us we'd take care of ya'' was a turn-off. There didn't seem to be much to do in the community.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

The poor interviewers also had to run through 6 students in one sitting (3 hours). I felt very, very bad for them, but could not help wonder how well they really got to know me, being as fatigued as they clearly were.

What are your general comments?

Duke is still a great school. It just may not work for everyone. People are very friendly overall, but the environment is too insulated for my liking.

What are your suggestions for the admissions office?
