How did you prepare for the interview?

Checked out website. I should done some mock interviews to be really polished with questions.

What impressed you positively?

Their simulation facility was the best I've seen. Not all sim-labs are equal. Theirs has infrared LED lights attached to a handpiece and sensors located up above so that the position and orientation of the handpiece can be followed. A computer can then show you how you're drilling to remove a simulated tooth cavity in the manikin's head. The only flaw is that in the artificial tooth that you're drilling, there is nothing to show you where the cavity is. If the cavity where different colored this would be fantastic. They may get this enhancement in the future. Many of their facilities were fancy and new.

What impressed you negatively?

The information session given by Robert Emling was "over the top". Could I have been the only one embarrassed to sit through it? He was so melodramatic about the school, that I'm glad I had a seat towards the back. I couldn't keep a straight face. While obviously not very bright, he is still probably one of the friendlier people you're likely to ever meet. Corky Cacas did a good job with her intro speech, but in person she is an ice-princess. Some of there facilities are oldish; check out their lecture halls and the preclinic lab. Their main clinical lab feels like you're in a gymnasium.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

Wow, it get's cold in Philly! I didn't feel particularly very stressed at this interview, but I must have been. By the end of the day, my palms were sweating worse than I've ever experienced. It was rediculous; I'd wipe my hands on my pants and they were immediately glistening with sweat a second later. I have to figure out how to relax more!

What are your general comments?

The students seemed happy, approachable and friendly. This was true more so than any school I've been to. The students couldn't really justify the cost of the school unless you were sure you wanted to specialize. They have fairly good rates of acceptance to specialties. When you go in to speak to Corky at the end of the day, she is interviewing you, not just making sure your applic is complete.
