How is the responsiveness of the admissions office?

How did you prepare for the interview?

Went through Columbia's information booklet, talked to a few students on SDN, and looked at interview experiences on SDN.

What impressed you positively?

The willingness of the students to talk frankly about the school. I felt like I walked away with ALL my questions answered.

What impressed you negatively?

Students mentioned how difficult it is, and how everyone ends up specializing at the school. The area is kind of sketchy, but not really.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

That Columbia is a school in which most of their students go on to pursue specialties. Also, that the first two years of classes are heavily with medical students.

What are your general comments?

My interview experience was VERY laid back. It was more conversational and less formal than some of the other interviews? They just want to get to know you better, and not necessarily grill you about your credentials. If you go there, really talk to the students to get a feel for the school-esp. a second year, b/c they have seen the transition from grades to P/F.

What are your suggestions for the admissions office?
