💬 Interview Questions

I was only asked a couple questions in my interview (i.e. why dentistry? do you want to specialize?). The other half hour was spent listening to my interviewer tell me all about Penn and Philadelphia and how great it is.

What impressed you positively?

Although everyone seems to think this is the negative aspect of Penn, I really thought the facilities were nice. I liked the balance between clinical and research at the school.

What impressed you negatively?

They seemed to be obsessed with the fact that they were an ivy league school. Multiple times throughout the info session they kept on harping on the fact that Penn had an excellent name because it was an ivy and that's why it was a good school. I think that a school with a good name shouldn't have to tell their interviewees that over and over again.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

That quite a few people specialize out of Penn. (40% specialize; 40% pursue an advanced education of some sort; and 20% enter private practice)

What are your general comments?

I was defintely impressed with everyone I met at Penn. They seemed really helpful and very friendly. I also really liked Philadelphia. I was a little bit worried that the area around Penn was bad, and while it isn't the safest area, it didn't seem too bad. Also, the area around Center City (Rittenhouse) was really nice.
