What do you like least?

The curriculum has changed every semester for us in a way that is not beneficial for the students. We are overloaded with classes that are being taught in a way that is evaluating how we memorize information compared to actually learning and truly digesting the information. Most of the professors are not adequate teachers and become irritated with the students when we no longer show for classes we deem not worthy of our time and money because the professors are not putting in the effort that is expected of a medical professional school. The school also seems to have a big issue with managing their time, giving the students an extremely loaded summer and having lab practice at times that cause a lot of tension throughout different lab groups because the students have to fight for their spots. Nova optometry has also lied to incoming students with promises of lighter schedules and some ample breaks between semesters, but this is false. We have received our academic calendar for the next semester only a month in advanced and when administration is told that this is not ample time to coordinate visits home for students, we are told basically to deal with it. Most schools have an academic calendar at least a year in advanced and some even 3 years in advanced. We’re not even allowed to use contact solution from the school during lab and are told to supply it ourselves. The school obviously only cares about receiving money and not at all abut putting effort into their program. We are wasting time spending 4 weeks learning skills that require less emphasis and technique and are stuck being forced to learn how to use a BIO and tonometry in 2 weeks and then expected to go into the clinic now one semester early.

What are the facilities and clinics like (old/new, well maintained, etc.)?

The facilities are average, not terribly old, they are well maintained thanks to Juan Carlos, he is the shining star of Nova.

How do students from this program do after graduation - are they adequately prepared for practice?

Most do adequately, but given the changes to the boards with more clinic experience required, we are not sure how it will go in the next few years, seeing as this is why our curriculum is changing so much.
