Not much is mandatory in the preclinical years. You have a ton of time in M4 to study for step 2 and tailor your schedule to do well in the specialty of your choice. Advisors are abundant. Upperclassmen are helpful and kind.

What do you like least?

Winston-Salem is a small city/town and can be kind of isolating if you're from somewhere larger

New medical school building built in 2016, still state of the art. Hospital is renovating and building a new ICU tower and ED. The Charlotte campus is building a new hub there that looks stellar in the pictures

How do students from this program do after graduation - are they adequately prepared for practice?

We match well into competitive subspecialties and those I've spoken with say they've felt well prepared (or as prepared as they could be)

What are rotations like?

Clerkships - Psychiatry (4 weeks), Neurology (4 weeks), EM (4 weeks), Family Med (4 weeks), Peds (6 weeks, 1 week of evenings), Obgyn (6 weeks, sometimes 1 week of nights Sun-Thurs 6p-8a ish), Surgery (8 weeks, no weekends), Internal Medicine (8 weeks, work 4 weekend days; one week of nights (6p-1a ish or whenever you're let go)), Anesthesia (2 weeks), Ambulatory Internal Medicine (2 weeks)
