School Overview

School Info

Argosy University is a leading institution of higher learning founded upon the principle that relationship building is at the heart of both educational and professional success. Our academic programs focus on the interpersonal skills vital to professional achievement, while our faculty and staff nurture students' confidence — as well as competence — to thrive in their chosen fields.

Argosy University was formed in September 2001 by the merging of three separate academic institutions. The American School of Professional Psychology was founded in the early 1970s by a group of psychologists, educators, and other professionals who called for a clinical psychology degree that emphasized teaching and practical training over the research-oriented approach of the traditional PhD degree. The University of Sarasota had for more than 30 years offered degree programs in business and education to working adults through a delivery format that mixed distance learning and brief, intensive on-campus study periods. Responding to the emerging needs of the medical community, the Medical Institute of Minnesota was established in 1961 to prepare skilled allied healthcare personnel for careers in the booming medical technology fields.

Curriculum

The Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree in Clinical Psychology program prepares students to deliver basic diagnostic and therapeutic services to diverse populations including individuals, groups, and families. By integrating theory, training, research, and practice, students develop and apply the clinical skills of observation, assessment, intervention, and evaluation.

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
