Rocky Vista University - Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVU-MCOM), located in Billings, Montana, is a branch campus of Rocky Vista University dedicated to training future osteopathic physicians with a focus on rural and underserved populations. The campus welcomed its inaugural class in 2023 and shares RVU’s mission of producing clinically competent and compassionate physicians. Emphasizing osteopathic principles and community-based care, RVU-MCOM aims to address physician shortages across the Mountain West and beyond.
RVU-MCOM follows a systems-based, integrated curriculum that combines foundational biomedical sciences with early clinical exposure. The first two years emphasize active learning, small-group discussions, and standardized patient encounters, while the third and fourth years are devoted to clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals and clinics throughout Montana and surrounding states. The curriculum incorporates osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), interprofessional education, and population health principles throughout all four years.
The Billings campus features modern classrooms equipped with advanced audiovisual technology, simulation labs with high-fidelity mannequins, and dedicated OMM training spaces. Students have access to anatomy resources, including digital dissection tools and cadaveric study, as well as a library and student study spaces designed to support collaboration. The campus layout is designed to foster a close-knit academic community with access to both urban and rural healthcare settings for clinical training.
As a new institution, RVU-MCOM’s student body is still growing, with a focus on recruiting individuals from Montana and the surrounding region who are committed to serving rural and underserved communities. The school encourages diversity in background and experience, with a holistic admissions process that considers academic metrics alongside service, leadership, and life experiences. The inaugural classes are expected to reflect a balance of traditional and non-traditional students with a shared commitment to osteopathic values and primary care.

Although we could tier rank, over the past 25 years we've found no compelling benefit for ranking schools. Students are most successful when they prioritize personal and academic fit over school rank.
