    Old IMG low scores

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I think you do make good points. She has applied in the past when we initially got here but no luck (we were on the East Coast then). Even though she does not need a visa (we are permanent residents), I'm not really sure how much that impacts anything...

    Old IMG low scores

Hello- I need some guidance (and advice) from folks who have a better idea about this situation. My wife is interested in pediatrics. She is an older IMG (graduated in 2004) and passed all the USMLE steps with some difficulty: (Step 1-191 (3rd attempt), Step 2-187 (1st attempt) and passed step...

Pediatric Surgery: Advice of when to apply

That was actually my concern. My PGY1 and 2 were above the 92nd percentile but my R3 dropped to 76th percentile (77% correct). I am sure it will get better but wanted to know if it will be a big deal when I apply next year. I hope other stuffs on my CV will balance things up. Will stay...

Pediatric Surgery: Advice of when to apply

Hey guys. I was wondering what will be considered a low vs good ABSITE score for pediatric surgery. Please pitch in if you have any idea. Thanks guys!

Pediatric Surgery: Advice of when to apply

It was a lot of hard work, though they were not all done in 1 year :)

Pediatric Surgery: Advice of when to apply

Thanks for your advice. Regarding the IMG issue, that should no longer be a problem. After I realized that visa sponsorship might be an issue with pediatric surgery, I started working on a more permanent status. As of January this year, I became a US permanent resident. Hopefully, that should...

Pediatric Surgery: Advice of when to apply

I do have publications, only clinical research though. I have an MPH and spent one year doing general surgery research before residency. My PD did not want me to go out on research and get stuck on visa issues being an IMG, which I understand. Need to be a general surgeon first :) In all, I have...

    Pediatric Surgery 2012 Fellowship Match

I though the "centralized process" will be like a first round pre-interview before moving on to a second phase. That way, you don't need to travel to all these programs and simply prepare to go to programs that shortlist you in the second round. I definitely agree with your last point about...

Pediatric Surgery: Advice of when to apply

I have to agree with Joehuf. From what I have gathered, the number of publications matter but not as much. As a matter of fact, I used to think it had to be only basic science research but that has also been disproved. Obviously, other things count: ABSITE, presentations and most importantly who...

    Pediatric Surgery 2012 Fellowship Match

That sounds nice. Let's see if that gets implemented before I start applying in December. Will be real happy to save some money :)

    Pediatric Surgery 2012 Fellowship Match

I thought ERAS/EFDO was already centralized. What other form of centralized application are they referring to?

    Pediatric Surgery 2012 Fellowship Match

While I am not applying this year, I have kept my ears to the ground and this is the same thing I have gathered from others. From what I hear, might be related to the time people take off from residency to go interview. On the brighter side, saves you a lot of money spent traveling.

Thank you Joehuf. That was really helpful. Will PM you.

    Pediatric Surgery 2012 Fellowship Match

Is it remotely possible that no one applying for pediatric surgery visits this forum or just busy preparing for interviews? Just curious since there's been no response to my initial post. If there are some, please share as soon as you have the time. Will be helpful for those of us coming behind...

    For Nigerian IMGs....

I recommend you read the blog. I was not really getting a lot of questions on there so I have not been updating it. Add to that the rigors of general surgery residency. If you go through the blog and have questions, let me know.
