    New lab question

Hi, I'm starting a new translational lab this summer after finally finishing fellowship. I'm not md/phd - I took a more circuitous route with masters, biotech, and a research oriented fellowship. Are there any resources that help folks figure out the hidden curriculum in lab setup, grant apps...

Is applying Med-Peds /and/ IM a red flag?

It shouldn't matter. Its the reality that program options are limited. I was regionally restricted as well, limiting myself to a 6-7 hour drive from grandparents. I matched fine without needing IM, only ranking 6 programs.

About Mt. Sinai Elmhurst Pediatrics Residency Program

Plenty of programs accept DO students. Just look into current resident lists in your area of interest.

    Official ABIM Exam/study tools thread!

I passed this year, a bit below the mean. Did well on ITEs, 70%ile or so each year, but delayed taking the boards a year so I could take Pediatrics first. I did MKSAP and UWORLD each once, and reviewed some mistakes. No reading as I've never been able to read a textbook. More than that was...

    Pediatric Board Exam 2021

I took the boards last year eith the exact same study plan and first pass a couple percentage points below yours. I walked out of the test with a pass right around the mean. Not a guarantee, but hopefully you do the same!

Number of Yrs/Board Exams for Med-Peds PCC?

I think this is location and need dependent. I'm at a lower mid tier academic institution. So, it's possible, but probably not everywhere.

Number of Yrs/Board Exams for Med-Peds PCC?

As a side note At my institution we have a Med Peds ICU doc who did PICU alone and still does adult ICU based on his core training and fellowship electives. Hes been in practice 10-15 years now and does more adult than peds (70:30 or so) with good success.

Number of Yrs/Board Exams for Med-Peds PCC?

It's a long road. At this point due to the Peds research requirements in fellowship, all combined fellowships are at least 4 years. I had some upper levels pursue the critical care route ahead of me and they were quoted 4 years - 3 for PICU and then a 1 year adult CC fellowship. There is no pulm...

    NP to MD

I think this response is very important. For the doubters above, I know several NPs easily pulling in as much if not more of an income than physicians. If you are willing to put in the work the income will come. This means that this can/will not be about income. If you make the jump this needs...

US residency, coming back to Canada for fellowship (or just to practice)

I'm Med Peds all the way, but unfortunately this is correct. Med Peds is no good in Canada. Rules are rules, I'm afraid .

    Pediatric Board Exam 2020

Yeah, that was tough. Definitely a couple that I never saw in test prep but came right out of med school. Well see...

Mentioning plans for subspecialty training in personal statement when applying to residency?

Strongly agree - if well thought out it will help! Good luck!

Official 2020-2021 Infectious Disease Fellowship Application Cycle

Late reply here but wanted to say good luck. I'm combined ID as well and loving the experience (and ignoring the length of the program)!

Dilemma - Seeking Advice IM vs FM for primary care

I think the most recent stuff in peer reviewed lit was 2015. There is more recent data that I've seen referenced at conferences but I don't have ready access to that either. https://medpeds.org/med-peds-resources/field-bibliography/ The top 2 to 3 articles are most relevant. I'm sure if you...

Dilemma - Seeking Advice IM vs FM for primary care

There are certainly going to be local practice differences. That said, data shows that consistently grads of med peds programs predominantly practice both. For fellowship, having all the options is certainly nice. I am in a combined fellowship, personally. All this said, it is not a failure for...
